So, it's been an eternity since I made regular updates here. There's many varying reasons for that. Anywho, I'm going to try a new lease on life. Being miserable and self-loathing hasn't really helped me. Don't get me wrong. I am still a crotchety old man, but instead of demanding you get off my lawn, I'll ask you to politely get off my lawn before I unleash the flesh-eating locusts. See? Much better.
Seriously though, I don't want much out of life. Right now, I have food, shelter, and a loyal wife and good friends. That's a lot more than most.
What's your favorite song with "America" or "USA" in the title? Bonus points if you share it with us.
Americana by The Offspring
Well I'd like to tell you all about my dream, it's a place
Where strip malls abound and diversion's mere moments away
Where culture's defined by the
Ones least refined
And you'll be left behind
If you don't fit in
It's all distorted
In americana my way
Well fuck you
Whoa Whoa Whoa
Well my dream has come true
Whoa Whoa Whoa
My vision has come true
Now give me my cable, fast food, four-by's, tats right away
I want it right now cause my generation don't like to wait
My future's determined by
Thieves, thugs, and vermin
It's quite an excursion
But it's okay
Everything's backwards
In americana my way
Well fuck you
Whoa Whoa Whoa
Well my dream has come true
Whoa Whoa Whoa
My vision has come true
It's all coming true
I'm a product
Of my environment
Don't blame me, I just work here
But I wanna fuck you!!!!!
My rights are denied by
Those least qualified
Trading profit for pride
But it's okay
Everything's backwards
In americana my way
Well fuck you
Whoa Whoa Whoa
My nightmare has come true
Whoa Whoa Whoa
My nightmare has come true
Yeah, it's all coming true
Yeah, it's all coming true
What question do you hate being asked?
I know I've been posting very rarely these days, but I've had so much going on in my life, that I've been hesitant in posting here. So to answer this question about questions...
I hate being asked any questions commonly associated with small talk. You know these.
How are you?
What are you doing these days?
How's the weather?
What's new?
etc.
Upon people learning my last name:
Hey! Have you seen the movie Groundhog Day? (This one doesn't get asked very often, but every time I tell people my last name, I anticipate this question.)
Actually, I generally hate any question from people I don't know and aren't comfortable with.
Who was the meanest teacher you had in school?
The Huebner!
It was apparently female. The details are hazy as this was in 2nd grade. This 'woman' had it out for me. I'm pretty sure she was out for blood when it came to me. I must have done something to piss her off at one point, but it was so long ago, I don't remember.
She made it a point to humiliate me in front of the class, punish me for minor things, etc. It got so bad that my parents got involved.
I know it's been weeks since I've posted anything significant. My life's kinda been on a rickety roller coaster ride for a while here. It'd be inappropriate to say mainly why because it's just speculation at this stage.
Anyway.. rehash time.
Two weekends ago, I went to see my older brother's college graduation. I was glad to see him and my sister-in-law, but my good god was the ceremony ever boring. Everything was so bland and by the book. The only 2 highlights were seeing my brother blow up a beach ball and then release it into the crowd; while the other being him actually getting announced as graduating Summa Cum Laude. It was certainly a moment for me to be proud. I'd post pictures, but none of them turned out very good as we were trapped in the nosebleed section of the auditorium. I should be getting pictures from his wife though.
Afterward, we went to a casual cafe called City Steam. The food was very good and I found the first beer I ever liked. The cafe has a microbrewery, so they serve their own beer brewed on site. There was one called the Naughty Nurse that was awesome. I only took a sip because I had to drive back later. However, I spent the next few days craving more. In fact, I ended up buying a 6-pack of Samuel Adams to try to avert the craving, but it didn't do the Naughty Nurse justice at all.
Last weekend, I got a much needed staycation. My wife and our friend Jay went to DC to see a concert while I stayed at home and vegged. It was quite relaxing. I haven't been able to do something like that for a long time. I did meet with an old friend at one point though. That was an emotional meeting. My heart goes out to him right now.
I reupped my account with City of Heroes a few weeks ago. I've been itching to break out my old characters. As I feared would happen (and rejoiced at too), the game has a new hold on me. It's been a lot of fun and there's so much new stuff to do. I've created a whole bunch of new characters too. Good times.
I've kinda been avoiding posting here because of previously stated mystery problem. I'm afraid I'll just end up ranting about something that I shouldn't care about or pay attention to. I don't really want to be that guy.
It is the 21st century. We are on the verge of developing human like artificial intelligence. Space travel has been achieved. And there is gum with flavor that lasts more than 5 minutes.
Yay humanity! Right? No...
We are still killing each other, arguing, lying, cheating, stealing, raping, maiming, etc. These are the same things we've been doing since some monkey popped out a retard baby a la Mr. Garrison. I wish I could be optimistic, but I only foresee things getting worse.
There are many arguments out there that say humanity is devolving. Wealthy countries such as the United States are producing intellectual dysgenics. Humanity has no natural predators. As such, we have no natural need to be faster, smarter, or stronger. Is it any wonder Idiocracy was jet propelled through movie theaters?
As evidence in favor of this theory, I present the American news media and "reality" shows. You need look no further than Fox News. These people thrive on ignorance and deceit.
There's been a lot of arguments out there between Creationists and Evolutionists about who's right and who's wrong. I guess Ben Stein has some movie or some such crap arguing in favor of Intelligent Design and how those proponents of it are being persecuted.
I sort of had an epiphany yesterday. I'm choosing option 3. Yes, there is a 3rd option. Who cares? Why does it matter. We're here. Do something more productive with your time. Think about where we're going and not how we got here.
This is why I side with no one these days. It doesn't matter. Regardless of who's right and who's wrong, both parties are filled with assholes.
I have the same reasoning for religion. Agnostic? Atheist? Christian? Jew? Muslim? Doesn't matter, you're an asshole. Your bickering has caused us all hardship. Again, I don't care who's right... not anymore.
What is your definition of cheating?
In general life: Making any personal gain through illicit means.
In relationships: Having any sort of intimate relationship with someone when already in a committed relationship with someone else.
Batman - The Killing Joke
by Alan Moore and illustrated by Brian Bolland
It was the 20th anniversary edition. What made it special was that the original artist, Brian Bolland, went through and recolored it. So, the colors were much better than the old print from the 80's.
I've been a Batman enthusiast much of life. I remember watching reruns of the old show from the 60's which I mildly enjoyed. But, It all really started when I was young and saw the Batman movie from 1989. I then saw Batman Returns several years later. Around that time, the animated show produced by Bruce Timm started airing. That, more than anything, would assure I'd be a fan for life.
I won't even discuss the next 2 sequels whose names I will not speak for fear of enticing my own nerd rage.
Anywho, I had read a few books throughout my life. I once had a friend who had a massive collection. Of course, I read much of it. It wasn't until my adult life that I started reading the stories which are considered must reads.
So, did I like The Killing Joke? Yeah, I have a new favorite Batman book.
